egan and Riley met as biology majors and
student athletes at Dickinson State Uni-
versity in North Dakota – Regan played
softball and Riley football. They spent a lot of time
studying together their fourth year of university
and helped each other navigate the challenges of
balancing a demanding class and athletic schedule.
They didn’t plan on starting a serious relation-
ship, but they both felt it happening within a few
months. “While we didn’t have a ‘love at first sight’
moment like some couples, the relationship grew
very organically, and I think that’s a big reason
why we’re so solid today,” Regan says.
Regan completed her studies in North Dakota
and she returned to her native Manitoba, Canada
in June 2017 when her student status in the US
expired. Riley helped her move home while she was
