att and Betsey are high school sweethearts that met
while attending Cody High School. “We both went to
track nationals in California for a week and started dat-
ing soon after, on June 14, 2007,” Betsey says.
After seven years of dating, Matt flew Betsey out to California
for a break from Physician Assistant (PA) school. “Matt knew the
area well and had the spot picked out on Balboa Island,” Betsey
says. “He proposed there on the beach with a beautiful sunset on
the ocean.”
Betsey and Matt wanted to marry as soon as possible. They
planned a wedding around Betsey’s upcoming medical boards in
October of 2016. “Unfortunately, being in school it was hard to
focus on anything other than my studies,” Betsey says. “I relied
on my mother more than the typical bride. I chose [our] colors
(ivory, black and gold), and then my mom did the rest.” The rest
of Betsey’s family also contributed. Her mom and dad engineered
the props, which included a wall of lights. “My brother, who is a
lineman, created a twelve foot wall cross out of power poles for the
backdrop,” Betsey adds.
Family and friends continued to play a strong role in their wed-
ding, held at The Terrace in Cody on September 24, 2016. “My
brothers stood on my side of the wedding party, and Matt’s sisters
stood on his. Our pastor was one of Matt’s best and longest friends
growing up, so many stories of our long courtship and young
memories were shared during the ceremony.” Their wedding party
