at thought he had struck out when he met Amanda
at the Alibi Pub in Laramie, where she worked. “He
handed me his business card from when he was a fly
fishing guide,” Amanda explained. “I handed him my card
in return, but he couldn’t call me at work – so I blacked out

“I thought it was some sort of message not to call her,”
Pat added, laughing. “I thought it was a tip to get lost!”
The beginning of their relationship continued to make
the two laugh as they relayed stories of their first date
(dinner in Centennial and a soak in the Saratoga Hot
Springs), and especially their second date. “Amanda said
she was a runner; I thought I was a runner too,” Pat said.
“We decided to run a 5K for our second date. At the start,
I said, ‘I’ll see you in 21 minutes!’ … She beat me by eight
minutes and was waiting on me!” They both laughed, and
Pat added, “Now she runs the 5Ks, and I cheer her on.”
