Westwood Middle School
Students Compete in National
Garden Contest
Who has the best peas in Morgantown? A group of Westwood Middle School students think they hold
the title. And they just might! Several students in Amy Acosta’s and Victoria Fletcher’s classes took part in
the “1st Peas to the Table” contest sponsored by the American Farm Bureau. Laura Himes, an Instructional
Aide/Autism Mentor at Westwood Middle and a member of the Monongalia County Farm Bureau, thought
this hands-on activity would be perfect for her students. Her opinion was echoed by local farmers and fellow
Farm Bureau members John and Peggy Petrich.
We are impressed by the enthusiasm of both the teachers and the students. We are proud of them!” said the
Petriches, who toured the students’ bucket gardens.
