An Exciting New Year for West Virginia
Charles Wilfong, President, West Virginia Farm Bureau
As we begin an exciting
New Year, we have many
legislative issues to deal with
on the state and national level.
This year, more than any
other year in recent memory,
we have an opportunity in
West Virginia to move our
state forward and have a
meaningful impact on our
future. In order to accomplish that, West Virginia
Farm Bureau must be an organization that has clear
policies in place – policies that let our political
leaders know where we stand. This issue of our
magazine is devoted to presenting our organizational
policies, all of which have been developed from
the grassroots level. All WVFB members have the
opportunity to voice our opinions on current policies
and to propose new policies, and final approval is
given by the voting delegates at our annual meeting
each November. Our policies are clear, and there
should be no question where we stand on issues of
importance to our membership.
Most legislators truly appreciate the broad spectrum
that our policies cover and our commitment to stand
up and defend our positions. During the upcoming
legislative session, we will face some important issues.
Don Michael, Director of Governmental Affairs, Steve
Butler, Administrator, and Joan Harman, Director
of Public Relations, with the assistance of all of the
WVFB staff, will work constantly to represent our
organization well and disseminate information to
members, legislators and the public.
Please mark your calendars for February 3, 2015.
This is the date for our Day at the Legislature and
our Legislative Reception at the Charleston Marriott.
This is an excellent opportunity to put Farm Bureau
in the forefront and discuss concerns directly with our
representatives, all while sampling some of the finest
products West Virginia has to offer.
