KINDLE SCOUT (CONT’D) Currently there is no data on how many books have been sold in total, but at least one, Eddie and Sunny by Stacey Cochran, became a Kindle Top 100 Best Seller. Amazon notes two authors—Sariah Wilson, author of Royal Date, and Jennifer Skutelsky, author of Grave of Hummingbirds—went on to get book deals with Amazon Publishing after their titles were published by Kindle Press. The royalty terms are a little different than the Kindle self-publishing platform, but if your book is accepted Kindle Scout does give an advance and contracts are based around 5-year (renewable terms). Authors get a $1,500 advance plus a 50 percent eBook royalty rate, easy rights reversions and featured Amazon marketing, the company says. Check out the eligibility and other guidelines detailed here. Leave it to Amazon to continue to innovate and figure out how to get more and more of the market share. Still, this is worth checking. One note: The program is limited to books with a single author. At this time, they do not accept co-authored books. KINDLE SCOUT ACCEPTS THE FOLLOWING GENRES: ROMANCE, MYSTERY & THRILLER, SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY, TEEN & YOUNG ADULT, AND GENERAL LITERATURE & FICTION. WHEN IDENTIFYING YOUR GENRE IN THE SUBMISSION PROCESS, BE AS ACCURATE AS POSSIBLE TO HELP KINDLE SCOUT (AND READERS!) FIND YOUR BOOK. SEPT - OCTOBER 2015 PAGE 26 WRITERS’ TRICKS OF THE TRADE
