financial fraud? Alabama investigators did look into the matter, but a state
official said on March they have closed the investigation.

According to Joseph Borg, the Alabama Securities Commission Director, an
investigator did speak with Lee at the request of the Alabama Department
of Human Resources. That department handles complaints of elder abuse,
and because they have expertise in financial matters they looked into the
situation.
"We closed the file. Let's just say that she was able to answer questions we
asked to our satisfaction from our point of view," Borg said.
When, to the surprise of many, the announcement was made that 88-yearold Lee was about to publish another book, it triggered speculation about
whether she was capable to give appropriate consent.
