WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE: THE THIRD SPACE
Walking On Wild Air by Yvonne Marjot
Review by Chris Nedahl
I found this a compelling read.
It is a love story with a difference and explores the worlds of the central
characters with sensitivity. When Shushila Mackenzie returns to the
Scottish Highlands to put her late father's estate in order, she meets
Dougie MacLean. There is an instant attraction but not long into the
story we learn that all is not as it seems.
Shushila is trying to put a tragic past behind her. Recovery, both mental
and physical are far from complete. Dougie hides a secret only Sushila
will come to know. For a short time they create a life, one between two
worlds, learning to part exist in both for the sake of the other.
The supernatural is cleverly handled and the author takes the story to
its climax with gentle compassion.
Life, and time, move on but ultimately the spiritual love of the protagonists conquers.
FOR MOST OF THE WINTER, GILLIAN BROWN LIVES IN THIS TRADITIONAL SAVOYARD
VILLAGE IN THE FRENCH ALPS. WHEN NOT ON THE SKI SLOPES, SHE FINDS THE
TRANQUILITY HELPS HER WRITE.
