WRITERS ABROAD MAGAZINE
WA Member Spotlight
Featuring Jill Brown
Nothing in my background suggested I’d
become a writer. Growing up, I refused to
read books forced on me by an over-eager
father, and only read the minimum
necessary at school — apart from Lord of
the Flies, six times.
I then chose back-packing around the
world instead of further education. My
travels are still a source of inspiration.
Finally, a love of reading developed,
although I was 50 — and living in France
— before I got the bug for writing.
A Writers’ Bureau course taught me
something about getting the right words on
the page and in the correct order, and
much more was learnt from fellow
members of Writers Abroad.
I’ve had travel articles published in UK
magazines and my short stories have won
and been placed in competitions. Others
have appeared in anthologies, women’s
magazines and online.
My next goal is a novel.
Jill at home.
