Tips & Ideas
Make it look like Fall!
I
t’s all about getting a little out of the ordinary with your kitchen. Try colors, different
wood accents, and mixed metal finishes. Here’s a round-up of some of the hottest
kitchen trends.
Painted or colored cabinets are on
the rise, especially two-toned cabinets. This trend works for any style,
and is a relatively simple project if
you want to do it yourself. Simply
take off cabinet doors and drawers
and paint them. In the country-style
kitchen, the cabinets are painted a
soft green while the trim and countertops are natural wood, which gives
the room dimension.
Another big color trend is upper
cabinets in one color and lower or
island cabinets in another color. This
technique works best with a neutral
color, like a beige, white, gray or tan,
complemented by a bolder color,
like navy blue. Juxtaposing deep
charcoal with white cabinets helps to
lighten up a contemporary space.
Mix Up the Metals: Handles,
Knobs, and Fixtures
Hardware and plumbing fixtures don’t have to
match and don’t have to just be silver. Branch
out into copper, brushed nickel, oil-rubbed
bronze, brass, and satin finishes.
Matte black is another new trend in kitchens. This sleek color makes fixtures stand
out, while adding an air of sophistication.
Consider buying black matte appliances,
faucets, or light fixtures to change the pace
from shiny stainless steel. This trend can
make a big statement amidst white counters
and cabinets.
Rose gold accents aren’t just for your cell
phone. This beautiful metal looks like jewelry
in the kitchen. Look for faucets, drawer pulls, and
lighting that sends a rose-hued shimmer throughout
the space. Even stoves can pull of rose gold.
