Sean Yoro who goes by the name Hula, painted Clara, the most ambitiously placed mural
for CANVAS 2015. The mural can be seen under the Royal Park Bridge. The gorgeous
portrait of Clara, a model who posed for him in his Brooklyn studio, stands with a
determined look on her face, arm raised as if holding up the very bridge herself.
During the overwhelmingly successful debut,
CANVAS experimented by hosting local showdown in the unique and lively area of Northwood Village where seven local artists were
selected to paint outdoor murals on seven
garage doors of an active warehouse across
from ArtHouse429 Gallery.
The murals were painted during a single
day - Friday, November 13, 2016 - and it was
a great way to highlight such a creative and
artistic community as a vibrant arts destination
in West Palm Beach. The winner was Amanda
Valdes, whose wildly colorful cartoonish goth
girl with waves of green hair won the day.
Locals know her from her “Day of the Dead”
mural in the Graffiti Garden at Wine Scene on
Fern Street and her quirky waitress murals at
Howley’s Diner.
Now CANVAS which is billed as the nation’s
largest outdoor museum show, returns for its
second edition with a bigger, more colorful
splash. The two-weeks exhibition will happen
this year from November 11 to 20 and is
designed to captivate the imagination and
enrich public spaces through art.

The show will bring together some of the
most innovative and contemporary artists
from across the globe to build new temporary
and permanent installations in various parks
throughout Downtown West Palm Beach. The
theme of this year’s show is “Connection,” and
artworks will reflect what connection means
to an artist and to the world that experiences
their art.
One of the most important events during
CANVAS 2016 will be the Local Showdown
again in Northwood Village, this time on taking
place on November 11 from 7 to 11 p.m. The
winner will also receive a coveted position in
the CANVAS 2017 artist lineup.
For the Local Showdown, eligible artists
must reside in Palm Beach, Martin, Broward,
or Miami-Dade County. They are required to
submit artwork that is unique, scalable, and
suitable for public viewing of all ages.
This year’s applications were reviewed by a
hand-picked Selection Committee comprised
of business leaders and professionals from
the area. The seven selected artists submitted
