World T.E.A.M. Sports’ three
Challenge events in 2016 each
reached different athletes, but
all offered participants the thrill
of outdoor adventure.
In New York’s Catskill Mountains
and in suburban Washington D.C.’s
historic C&O Canal, young athletes
with developmental disabilities
rode bicycles, hiked, floated in
canoes and boats and undertook
unique outdoor activities as part of
their Challenge. In these outdoor
stages, exceptional athletes were
accompanied by able-bodied
coaches who provided careful
assistance and guidance as
necessary. For some adaptive
athletes, the Challenge provided
an initial opportunity to sample
outdoor sports such as cycling.
