In 1970, Marshall College suffered a tragedy when the players, coaches, and boosters of the college’s football team died in a horrific plane crash. A 2006 film puts forth the concept that the team, the college, and the town are not separate entities. Rather, they are all intertwined through a complex web of relationships, with each one being stronger through the support of the other and each one in turn relying on the other for support. World T.E.A.M. Sports started as an idea. It was an idea that people with and without disabilities could work together, on a team, in a challenging environment. It was founded on the belief that every team member provides value and receives value in return. Ultimately, we set out to prove that “The Exceptional Athlete Matters.” The result has been nothing short of astounding in scope and promise. When we work together, side-by-side, the line between who has a disability and who does not becomes blurred…and then disappears. Every one of us has something different to contribute and benefits from the contributions of those team members around us. World T.E.A.M. Sports is not a group of sponsors, athletes, volunteers, and spectators who exist independently of each other. We are a team. We are thankful for and dependent upon our sponsors and their support, but we do not exist solely for them. Likewise, we are motivated by each athlete who participates in our events, but without our sponsors and volunteers there would be no events. And without the tireless work of our volunteers, we could never manage these events. Each contributes and each receives something in return. We exist because of each other. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for putting your energies into our organization. World T.E.A.M. Sports belongs to you and is better because of you. Together, we are World T.E.A.M. Sports. Van P. Brinson III President and CEO Letter from the President 03
