on 16 March 1992, following the latter’s independence. Malaysia opened its
Embassy in Almaty on 23 December 1996 and was the first ASEAN member
country to establish a resident diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan. The role of
the Embassy is to maintain strong bilateral relationship between Malaysia
and Kazakhstan in areas such as education, tourism, trade and investment
as well as to promote and protect Malaysia’s interests in the Republic of
Kazakhstan.
