Every square and boulevard built in the capital this and next year will be designed according to specific style and theme . For example , construction of square in the area of house # 5 on Birzhan Sal street will be finished by the anniversary celebration . In the process of building the square was named a ‘ Suitcase park ’, since its territory is nearby the railway station . Small architecture forms there will be designed in the shape of suitcases . As per the architect ’ s idea , railways for children will be built there as well . Construction workers have already started setting the rails with this purpose .
The primary goal for the Akimat ’ s office work is providing Astana citizens with comfortable , available and secure conditions for living no matter which area or street they are located at . First of all , it relates to improving the roads and territories in town and outskirts .
For today , the transport system of Astana consists of 953 streets with a total length of 1,049 km . In our capital , there are 24 bridges , 11 overpasses , 8 transport interchanges , 7 underground and 4 aboveground pedestrian crossings .
In 2017 , a record amount of road work was achieved - 169 streets were built and repaired . A total of 114.5 km of asphalt roads laid down . Also , in order to reduce the load on the city ’ s street-road network , 7 intersections have been equipped with 9 right-turn signal arrows .
Currently , due to the continuous increase in the intensity and speed of traffic on roads , much attention is paid to ensuring road safety . The key role in unloading the center of the city is given to conjunction of Small ring road in the Southern part of town , extending Beisekova street and Uly Dala avenue ( both sides of Kaldayakov and Beisekova streets ) and erecting two automobile bridges through Esil river and Nura-Esil canal .
In the current year , 183 streets will be built and repaired , including 22 main city streets and 133 in residential areas , and 28.4 km of road surface will be repaired on 28 streets .
In addition , in order to develop the streetroad network , we continue work on the construction of 37 more streets , laying down engineering networks and lighting .
The formation of the transport frame will prevent the probability of a traffic collapse on the roads of the capital and ensure the easy accessibility of residential complexes and social facilities .
In total for the 5-year period it is planned to build 197 km of roads , 8 traffic junctions , 7 bridges and 1 overpass through the railway tracks .
One of the main indexes for quality of civil life is public transport ’ s operation .
Currently , within the framework of the ‘ New transport system of the city of Astana ’ concept , the project ‘ Intelligent Transport System ’ is being implemented , which provides for an integrated control system for traffic lights on a single platform . In 2014 , construction of the first stage ( 42 traffic lights ) was completed , and by the end of 2018 the second stage will be completed . Thus , up to the end of the year , 123 ‘ smart ’ traffic lights will function .
The system has adaptive control and minimizes human intervention . Based on sensor data along the road , it analyzes traffic and provides the most effective algorithm for controlling traffic lights . For the constant monitoring of the traffic situation , management and regulation , the Traffic Management Center was established on the basis of Astana LRT LLP , the only company in the Republic of Kazakhstan that has full competence in the field of transport planning , management and directly implements all projects on transport development in the capital .
In order to develop public transport for the last 3 years , 738 new comfortable buses were purchased , corresponding to the severe climate of the capital . Therefore , the car park was updated by 70 % and work in this direction continues .
The conditions for the popularization of public transport have been created : annually allocated public transport lanes are being introduced ( currently there are 23 sections with a length of 76 km ), and an electronic payment system is being introduced that meets all modern requirements of comfort and convenience .
Building of LRT from the airport to the ‘ Nurly Zhol ’ railway station is active now and planned to be finished by the end of 2019 .
The planned length of the system is 22.4 km , includes 18 stations , 10 underground and 8 above-ground pedestrian crossings that allow to optimize route network and unload certain streets ' squares .
Energy infrastructure
Energy infrastructure – is foundation for the city ’ s vitality and development . There are over five thousand people working 24 / 7 at the energy complex of Astana city . They ensure that all houses , offices and production facilities have electricity and heat .
Centralized generation of electric and thermal energy is composed of two sources : Combined Heat & Power Plant 1 ( HPP-1 ) and Heat & Power Plant 2 ( HPP- 2 ). Currently , these heating plants possess thermal power of 2 510 Gcal per hour . It is hard to imagine our present and future without thermal and electric power . Energy is the basis for digital technologies and Smart City . People ’ s quality of life and business activity level is directly related to energy services and access to provision of these resources .
