Train stations Antwerp and Liege (Belgium)
The station in Antwerp opened in 1905 on the site of the Eastern
Station. Architect Louis Delasenseri erected not so much the
station as the railway temple - the huge dome of the waiting
room gives the building a similarity to the cathedral. Marble
(about 20 types) was used for the construction of this eclectic
structure, and gold for decoration. In 2009, the reconstruction
turned the city’s central railway station into Belgium’s largest
transport hub – three-speed railways, modern engineering
systems successfully integrated into the imperial spirit of
Flemish architecture. In 2009, Newsweek placed Antwerp
Railway Station on the 4th place among the most beautiful
railway stations in the world.
In the third largest city in Belgium, Liege, there is another
amazing train station. Gare de Liège-Guillemins was built
on the site of the city’s first central station and occupies the
territory of the former monastery of the Order of St. William,
whose name it received. The first station in Liege was built
in 1842 and was rebuilt several times. Already in the ‘zero’ it
was decided to completely modernize the reconstruction of the
Liege station – for this, Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava
was involved. As a result, in 2009, the majestic and ultra-
modern station of Liege-Guillemins opened, the basic element
of which is a wavy roof of 39 steel arches with glass floors.

В третьем по величине городе Бельгии Льеже расположен еще
один удивительный вокзал. Gare de Liège-Guillemins построен

название которого и получил. Первый вокзал в Льеже был

"нулевых" было принято решение о полной модернизации ре-

панский архитектор Сантьяго Калатрава. В итоге в 2009 году
открылся величественный и ультрасовременный вокзал Льеж-
Гийемен, основообразующим элементом которого является
волнообразная крыша из 39 стальных арок со стеклянными
перекрытиями.
