On 11 January 1864, 154 years ago, the Charing Cross Station opened
in central London. The facade of the station was made in the style of
the French Renaissance; in the internal ceilings, advanced solutions
were used, including cast-iron constructions. However, one and a half
centuries later, Charing Cross is not recognized – the station was
rebuilt after the roof collapsed at the beginning of the 20th century
and the German bombings of World War II, besides in the early 90s
the original building here merged with the postmodern creation of
Terry Farrell, creating a unique and memorable look of the central
station British capital.
