Last Night

Declan Aroh

I kissed you

As you slept

With your head on my shoulder

And your hand in mine

Your hair strayed on my lips,

Soft and wispy

Like the strands of a blanket

Pulled too far

Now, as I look upon your closed lashes,

Smooth cheek, kind mouth

I can feel nothing

But dread

Tomorrow, we will part

And I shall behold your soft smile,

Your small hands and blue eyes

For the last time

As I sit beside you,

With your head on my cheek

Lightning flashes outside the window

But I cannot hear the thunder
