Instagram is a relatively new kid on the social media block. Instagram began as a photo sharing platform and still is. At the time of this writing, Instagram has also largely embraced video. Video posts in the form of stories of varying durations can now be posted. The duration is limited to seconds or a few minutes, but stories are very effective at engaging viewers. You can demonstrate a new technique or process. The traditional post with only images continues to form a large percentage of Instagram posts and is extremely effective at increasing the number of people or followers to your account. This effectively increases your exposure as a furniture maker.

Instagram accounts used to be strictly personal although the recent addition of a business account option has changed this. It is now possible to convert a personal account to a business account. Instagram business accounts have the advantage of providing analytics to the account owner. Through analytics, the engagement and exposure a post receives can be viewed in the form of charts and figures.

Analytics is a valuable tool for a business owner. A business owner can determine the demographic viewing and engaging with their posts, at what times of day and the weekdays their posts are most active. Through regular posting and engagement with your Instagram followers and other Instagram accounts, more people see your posts and the posts move up in ranking. Being active is the key to success on any social media platform. Instagram is a relative newcomer to social media but has grown exponentially in the past few years. Each Instagram post acquires Likes, Comments and Shares. Each of these increase engagement of the post and raise its ranking.

A highly ranked Instagram post is served to even more followers. It is this cascading exposure that benefits a business the most. Another feature a business account provides is advertising. Instagram ad campaigns are a recent addition and are set up to target the demographic most likely to purchase your work. The ads are in-line with regular posts when people scroll through their feeds.
