Een hedendaagse combinatie
van abstract en realisme in acryl,
of klassiek realisme in olieverf
Wat inspireert mij en hoe komen
mijn schilderijen en tekeningen tot
stand? Mensen, alles wat leeft, de
markt, de dingen om je heen, een
zin uit een verhaal, dat inspireert
me. Dat worden realistische
schilderijen of tekeningen van
mythologische
voorstellingen,
portretten of stillevens. Of kleine
hebbedingen, zoals miniaturen en
sierraden. Oude meesters zoals
Gustav Klimt, de Pre-Rafaƫlieten,
Laurens Alma Tadema, maar
ook de Hollandse en Vlaamse
meesters, zoals Rembrandt en
Rubens, zijn mijn leermeesters. Ik
kan uren naar hun werk kijken en
mij er in verliezen, er valt zoveel
van hen te leren. En vergeet
niet de prachtige illustraties van
boeken. Vooral Arthur Rackham,
Aubrey Beardsley en Edmond
Dulac
zijn
mijn
favorieten.
Allemaal ware meesters in een
sprookjesachtig realisme. Ik werk
voornamelijk naar levend model.
Mijn mythologische schilderijen
zijn een combinatie van abstract
en realisme, mijn stillevens zijn
realistisch. Bij groot werk vind
ik het heerlijk om me eerst uit te
leven in een orgie van kleuren.
In deze kleurenchaos ontstaan
mijn figuren, waarna er weer
rust onstaat. Voor mijn stillevens
gebruik ik de doodverftechniek,
ook Verdaccio genoemd.
A contemporary combination of
abstract and realism in acrylic, or
classical realism in oil
About my inspiration and
how I realize my paintings and
drawings. People, all living things,
the market, the things around me,
a phrase from a story, are my
sources of inspiration. That is how
my mythological paintings and still
lifes, or small gadgets, such as
jewelry, are born. Old masters like
Gustav Klimt, the Pre-Raphaelites,
Laurens Alma Tadema, but also
the Dutch and Flemish masters,
such as Rembrandt and Rubens,
are my teachers. I can spend
hours watching their work and
get lost in it. There is so much to
learn from them. And do not forget
the beautiful illustrations in books.
Especially
Arthur
Rackham,
Aubrey Beardsley and Edmund
Dulac are my favorites. All masters
in a magical realism. I mainly work
with live models. My mythological
paintings are a combination of
abstract and realism in acrylic,
my still lifes are realistic in oil.
When I work in big formats I love
to start first in an orgy of colors. In
this color chaos my figures arise,
then calmness again returns. For
my still lifes I use the death paint
technique, also called Verdaccio.
