I found myself singing happily along at the top of my lungs while I drove. And as I belted out the line “Take your passion and make it happen,” I found my mind turning to a conversation that I had earlier that day with my son. My son is 16 and is addicted to YouTube. He and his friends compete to find the most interesting, funny and/or horrifying videos to pass along. Among his favourite videos are the ones that cover snippets from shows such as, “America’s Got Talent” and others that promote people of all ages and walks of life, showing off what they can do. On this particular afternoon he caught me on the way to the coffee pot with a huge grin and a new find. It was a fun video, but what stuck with me was my son’s admiring comment: “Now that’s how you win!” I agreed and told him that you had to take your hat off to the contestant. That it takes great courage to put it all out there and expose yourself to possible criticism. There is nothing quite as attractive as that confidence that simply reaches out to us in the audience and invites us to join in their enjoyment and the thrill of the performance. Lately we have all been encouraged to embrace ‘an attitude of gratitude’ and I’m going to take this one step further. Let’s give ourselves the gift of recognizing a time each day when we can step back from distractions and make the choice to be 100% in that moment. A moment that we can look back on and think, “What a feeling!” Merchant Services JENNIFER BELIK KIS Payments [email protected] Mobile: 807-371-2000 www.kispayments.com FB: @JBelikConsulting LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jennifer-belik-38b73436 Alignable: https://www.alignable.com/join/ritevtpo7w_ v8g1xopwd9q 51 As I sang in the car and recalled how much my son and I enjoyed our shared few minutes, I had a small epiphany. Here were a couple of times when I was genuinely living in the moment. That it’s the moments we choose to give all of our attention to, big or small, that stay with us. I absolutely relish that ‘click’ we all feel deep inside when we truly connect with others, both personally and in our business, and get to share our passion. There’s no other feeling quite like it!
