President Helene Wood Follow Your Dreams! When I was a child my dream job was to be a teacher. In Grade 2, I was inspired by my teacher who helped me so much. Right then I knew I wanted to help others too. Years later I had the opportunity to help, thanks to the Insurance Industry. As a course provider through my company, Advance Insurance Educational Services Inc., my team of independent contractors and I share our knowledge with everyday people who want to join the insurance industry. We provide courses to assist them with preparing for the Alberta Insurance Council’s licensing exams and offer a great line-up of other seminars to all. I am also blessed to be able to share my love of teaching through my role as a General Insurance Broker through Tredd Insurance. Taking the time to educate the public on how insurance works makes it easier for them to understand what coverage and options they have. A testimonial from a satisfied client states, “Helene is the best personal lines broker I have dealt with, in over 40 years.” Over my 27 years in the industry, an accomplishment I am most proud of is launching Mennonite Insurance Agency Ltd. I was hired as a contractor by the folks of Mennonite Mutual Insurance to spearhead the launch of their automobile agency. In this project, I had the opportunity to utilize all of my skills. I learned their new operating system and designed training materials to teach their staff in both Calgary and La Crete, Alberta. Many hours went into developing training materials and spending time with the staff to prepare them for this exciting chapter in the growth of their business. Eight years later the agency is doing very well. I consider this a very proud legacy in my training career. Find something that you love doing and then do it very well. There is a very big difference between a career and a job. A job is something that you take to pay the bills and it will do until something better comes along. A career is something that you put all your energy into; all your passion into; all your desire into. It is something that moves you – something that you do to make a difference in the world. The old saying goes, “When a job feels like a job, it is time to find a new job.” When choosing a career, find something that makes your heart happy. Money is important of course, but if your heart is not happy, no matter how much money you have, it won’t bring you true happiness.
