Online Safety Consultant Keeping You Safe Online and Offline For the last 15 years, I have had the ‘cool’ job in law enforcement. My career started in forensic science developing DNA profiles and then crossed over into crime analysis identifying crime trends and suspects. Public service has been a huge part of my life and I dedicated countless hours assisting police officers in keeping our city safe. My life in law enforcement enabled me to live comfortably and afforded me a decent work/life balance. But something was missing. I was working for someone else’s dream and not my own. I tried to stuff that feeling down and carry on, telling myself I should be happy with the job I had. That was the worst decision I ever made. About a year later, I realized the excitement and passion I always had for my work had faded and my family could tell I was miserable. I left that career to start over from scratch. That was best decision I ever made. Taking the leap and resigning from the ‘cool’ job has strengthened my core values and commitment to serving my community. Kindness, authenticity, integrity and compassion have always been my path to serving others, but now I also serve myself with the same values. Listening to my instincts, leaning into the unknown and following my passion enabled me to step away from a job and build a life that I love. Analyzing crime trends for the last decade and observing how crime has evolved has provided me the insight required to keep families safe. The vulnerabilities that now exist online did not exist 15 years ago. Parents are faced with a new struggle that they were never faced with growing up – protecting their children in a virtual world which ultimately spills over into the real world. Keeping up with your kids online can feel scary and overwhelming. The convenience of digital technology eases the demands of parenting but can also lead to the feeling of being left in the dark when it comes to our kids’ online activities. When provided with the right tools and guidance, parents and children can make smart decisions online which result in a happier, empowered, more successful life offline.
