According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists ( ACOG ), women at average risk of breast cancer should be offered screening mammography starting at age 40 . If they have not initiated screening in their 40s , they should begin screening mammography no later than age 50 and continuing every one or two years until at least 75 years of age . The American Cancer Society has slightly different recommendations .
A woman ’ s screening decisions at all ages should be made with her healthcare provider , to include information about the potential benefits and harms , and incorporating patient values and preferences . Each of our physicians will discuss a woman ’ s personal risk for breast cancer and can arrange referrals to specialists for high-risk women when indicated . This is the best way of mitigating risk and contributes significantly to the overall health and well-being of a woman .
