about their current condition,
as well as how their condition
might deteriorate in the future.
Can you cope with the ongoing
stress, involved in caregiving in
addition to the following:
What kind of specialized
medical care is available near-
by?
Is there an adult day pro-
gram in your community? Or
respite care for when you need
to take a much-needed vaca-
tion?
Is there space in your home?
Consider your home’s ac-
cessibility — stairs to navi-
gate, halls and doorways
wide enough for a wheel-
chair, etc.
These decisions are emo-
tionally charged and will be
influenced by both your par-
ent’s attitude towards change
and that of your siblings toward
pitching in to help, possibly fi-
nancially if not in person. The
relationship you have with your
parents and siblings will also
factor into how much resistance
or cooperation there will be to
change.
Is someone around to help
the older person during the
whole day?
What are your parents able
to do for themselves?
What personal care are you
willing and able to provide
— moving your parent from
a chair to a bed or toilet,
changing adult diapers, or using a feeding tube, for exam-
ple?
What kinds of home care services are available in your
community?
Remind everyone involved
that your parents took care of you when you were young and
couldn’t care for yourself. Now that the roles are reversed, you
are repaying their love and care by keeping their well-being in
their later years as your ultimate goal.

Striving to Keep Seniors Healthy, Happy and at Home!
S.O.S., Serving Our Seniors,
Inc., is a locally owned business
focused on helping senior citizens
remain in their own homes and
communities. Camille Suszek, the
proprietor, established Serving Our
Seniors, after leaving the field of spe-
cial education to work with seniors
and their families providing a vari-
ety of “hands on” assistance. When
her mother needed 24-7 care follow-
ing a major stroke in 2016, Camille
moved in and took on the challenge
of full time caregiving. The experi-
ence allowed Ms. Suszek to become
knowledgeable with regard to the
legal, financial, medical, and caregiv-
ing issues associated with the senior
population. Along the way, Camille
familiarized herself with the resourc-
es available in the WNY area and
developed an extensive network of
independent care providers to assist
other seniors and families in need.
Serving Our Seniors, Inc.,
stands out from other businesses
with its comprehensive individual-
ized approach. We strive to keep
seniors healthy (both financially and
physically), happy and at home. Ms.
Suszek and her staff will work quickly
and effectively to provide a custom-
ized plan to address immediate and
future needs. Various financial and
legal documents are examined along
with day to day issues related to trans-
portation, medication reminders/
administration, meal preparation,
home maintenance, shopping, per-
sonal care and socialization/compan-
ionship. Camille Suszek and her care
providers are committed to work-
ing with seniors and their families
