Dignity of Failure…yes, you read that correctly…Young
adults need the dignity of failure; we all learn from our mis-
takes. The best mistakes are when we are surrounded by our
support systems and they are encouraging us but let us take the
lead, letting us try. If it does not work out or go well, we can
then use it as a learning experience. We can have conversations
with the young adult about what could be done differently next
time. Perhaps, is there an adult system that can provide support
or do we need to come up with a better plan? The first step to
success is trying!
You can do it!
Remember you are not alone! Be informed, ask questions,
reach out to your supports, and everything will work out in the
end. Planning, taking things step by step, and adjusting when
needed is what will lead to self-determined, motivated, produc-
tive, self-sufficient young adults who achieve their goals.
