ROCHESTER continued... The High Falls Interpretive Center & Museum has ex- hibits on the history of this district, which had numerous flour mills and factories over 150 years ago. Located in a 19th Century waterworks building, it features many hands-on and multimedia exhibits. A short distance from the museum you can walk on an 850-foot-long pedestrian bridge over the Genesee River Gorge where you can view High Falls, a 100-foot waterfall which has been named the best city waterfall in America. Learn more at http://www.cityofrochester.gov/highfallsmuseum/. If your family enjoys art, check out the Memorial Art Gal- lery (www.mag.rochester.edu). Founded in 1913, it is part of the University of Rochester. The gallery has a permanent col- lection of over 12,000 objects of art from ancient times to the present. Outdoors, ten acres of the gallery’s grounds have been made into the Centennial Sculpture Park which showcases pub- lic art. The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday. Serving the Rochester community since 1905, the Roch- ester Public Market (www.cityofrochester.gov/publicmarket/) offers local produce and other products. It is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday year-round, along with special events taking place seasonally on other days of the week, like Food Truck Rodeo on the last Wednesday evening of the month April to September and Bands on the Bricks on Friday nights in July and part of August. Explore Lake Ontario’s Shore          Located along Lake Ontario, in the northern section of the city, is Ontario Beach Park, a favorite spot of mine. It has one of the nicest sand beaches in the Great Lakes region as well as a historic 1905 Dentzel carousel. The park hosts a free concert series on Wednesday evenings during the summer. The Char- lotte Genesee Lighthouse, which is open for tours Saturday and Sunday afternoons, is located nearby. 44 WNY Family June 2018 • Summer Go! Guide Further east along the lake you’ll find Seabreeze Amuse- ment Park (www.seabreeze.com), which is actually the fourth oldest amusement park in the country. It originally opened in 1879 as a picnic grove; today it has over 75 rides and waterpark attractions.
