Adults will enjoy tasting Belgian-style brews at Brewery Om-
megang, located just south of Cooperstown. They offer tours and
also have a somewhat family-friendly café open for lunch daily.
They also host a summer concert series and have an annual beer
festival; Belgium comes to Cooperstown, during the summer.
There are a number
of places to stay in Coo-
perstown, from quaint
bed & breakfast inns
to rather pricey luxury
inns. When we visited
we stayed at the Mohi-
can Motel, which was
about a 10 minute walk
to Main Street. While
it wasn’t fancy, the mo-
tel offers several two-
bedroom units that give
families room to spread
out, which is nice if you
are traveling with older
kids. The Lakefront Ho-
tel, which overlooks the
waterfront, would also be a good choice for families.
No visit to the Cooperstown area would be complete without
stopping at the Fly Creek Cider Mill, located about 6 miles west
of Cooperstown. One can easily spend several hours here sampling
the many dips and sauces available for sale in their marketplace,
feeding the ducks in their duck pond, looking at their exhibit on
the cider pressing process (which is made on-site in the fall) and
browsing the gift shop. They also have a snack bar featuring cider
slushies and house-made baked goods, as well as sandwiches and
soups. There is also a playground for small children.
