Make It Monday at the Orchard Park Public Library, all ages, Mondays, January 7 – February 11. Lap Sit programs for babies will be held on Thursdays at the Lake Shore Public Library. Take Your Child to the Library Day is Saturday, February 2. All libraries will showcase family-friendly and entertain- ing activities to encourage young ones to always feel welcome in the library. W ith the holidays behind us, January brings won- derful opportunities to spend quality time nurturing children of all ages. Let the Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries help you keep things stress-free in the New Year with dozens of Winter Reading family programs and activities. This year’s theme “Warm up with a Good Book” will officially kick off in mid-January with the help of a Buffalo Sabres Hockey team player. Winter Reading runs through March 15. All 37 of the Buf- falo & Erie County Public Libraries and the Library on Wheels bookmobile will have dozens of winter- themed and age-ap- propriate fun programs and activities. Best of all, everything is free and library cards are free (for all ages) for those who live, work, or go to school in Erie County. What can you expect from Winter Reading 2019? Infant, toddler and fam- ily storytimes, book babies reading gath- erings, rhymes and good times programs, “crafterdays,” read alouds, finger puppet plays, reading with an SPCA dog, LEGO club, game labs, birdwatching, Siberian husky club, gadget club, teen reader Quest Book Club, Rising Voices Book Club, Manga book groups, and a whole lot more! Highlights clude: in- The Winter Read- ing Challenge (Janu- ary 9 – March 15). Read a book and write a short review for a chance to win a Kin- dle Fire, a Barnes & Noble gift card, or the delightful hardcover book Buffalo Snow, beautifully written and illustrated by local res- Library Day @ the Sabres – Sat- urday, February 23 at KeyBank Center. The Library on Wheels bookmobile will be stationed on the plaza before the Sa- bres game for browsing and material checkouts. Children’s tickets to the game are $15. Penguin Story Hours, a Clifford Scavenger Hunt and Valentine’s Day Make and Takes are planned for the Town of Collins Library. String Art (ages 5 – 12) on February 2, Magic and Balloon Show on February 19 and Cat and a Hat program on March 9 are planned at the Lancaster Public Li- brary. The family afternoon movie with free popcorn and prizes on Saturday, January 19 is BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) at the Anna Reinstein Memorial Library in Cheektowaga, and on Satur- day, February 2 the SPCA Paws of Love Therapy Dog visits the library.  Young Audiences of Western New York takes to the stage on the second Sat- urday of every month for themed perfor- mances, entertainers, and workshops at the downtown Buffalo Central Library.
