These supports can be found throughout the museum — from quiet kits and call-ahead accommodations to sensory-friendly spaces, social narratives, visual schedules, visual/sensory maps, and more. They hope to prepare families before, during and after their visit, so they get the most out of their museum experience. Explore & More is also continuing their much beloved Au-Some Evenings dedicated to children with autism and/ or sensory challenges. This program allows these children and their families to access the space when it is closed to the public. The family can explore the museum in a comfortable and accepting environment that features fewer guests, light and sound reduction, extra visual safety signage, and designated quiet areas that include sensory-friendly quiet kits. Explore & More will be developing other programs as they go forward, seeking to collaborate with community partners to ensure that they are taking into consideration the needs of the community.
