I did not knowing immediately that
there were two cows in between
(at the time of the rut season,
females are more aggressive than
the bull). I was able to spend a
good two hours with the bull
moose, photographing him. Every
little noise was airy and scary...
while I was focused so deeply on
the moose...
Not knowing what to expect next,
I sat there and watched them.
Suddenly, the quiet of vehicles
and people found me alone...but
being with animals for 30 years in
the wild, nothing scared me...
The glow of light made me
whisper, and I could hear myself
while I took a deep breath and
thanked the creator for allowing
me to live my dream…to be able
to enjoy true wilderness of the
back country.
Suddenly I realized that two cow
moose and the bull bedded down
while my mind was walking into
past, present and future ...it was
like a day dream. Although they
were aware of my presence, I was
still on a lookout and gave them
their space.
After a while, the bull moose stood
up and looked in one direction
intensively, and I said “Wow”
out loud...there was another huge
bull standing in the distance. I felt
like I was in heaven...each other
approached very carefully without
the fight over females.
I looked around me and
everywhere I looked it was color
on the blaze...a very obvious sign
of AUTUMN was among us...
and in BLAZING GLORY all was

illuminated with gold, red and
green colors. My eyes soaked in
every second of it and my mind
engraved colors that will be hard
to forget for a long time to come.
While all of this was happening,
I
was
photographing
and
documenting on a video NATURE
AT ITS BEST. For a happy ending
to this story, the bull moose kissed
the cow moose. I walked away
thinking...next year in spring there
will be little spotty baby moose, a
calf, hopping from one side to the
other...I smiled and hurried up to
my next adventure… W L M
