Last year, the Foundation received the Governor’s Arts
Award for its total effort to incorporate the arts into the
community as an educational and economic resource.
Because the Foundation works closely with the schools,
it was only natural that they added short and simple arts
projects for children and families. These are held in the
nearby county museum.
Darlington says, “One popular activity is an annual
sidewalk art show, which includes both kids and adults.
We’ve also had student art shows, working with teachers in
the schools, after-school programs and day care programs.
Of course, that really brings the families out!” she adds
with a laugh. “You don’t realize how much that influences
these kids until you have one of them hold up something
they have made and tell you they didn’t know they could
‘make art.’

All kids are welcome!
“A lot of people say Thermopolis reminds them of the way
communities used to be,” Darlington adds. “We take that as
a compliment.” WLM
