Holiday Wine SURVIVAL GUIDE T he holidays are hard. The parties, the people, the stress. That’s why there’s wine. It’s the best answer to all your holiday gifting and stress woes. Not all wines go together with every food or occasion and not all wines pair with all people. So instead of a food and wine pairing, I give to you a holiday survival guide, based on personality. Here is the not-so-scientific breakdown … The Back from College/Know it All – A Moscato or something young, sweet and ready to drink. These wines allow this person to move on to more pressing issues like demanding vegan turkey. The Hipster – Go new and funky with a style called Orange Wines. They aren’t made from oranges, but are skin fermented white wines which are a deep almost orange/amber color from the process. After all, Rose’ was so 2016. The Politico – Consider a big, bold red to keep up with the big talk, ideas, and the 2018 vote! Get a big glass and go big with a Cabernet or Merlot to help you cut through the political talk. The Party Animal – This is a slam dunk for any occasion during the holidays, but grab a bottle of fruit- forward sparkling wine. It is a perfect fit for this ugly sweater wearing, Rudolph nose blinking life of the party! Check out some great bubbly specials at your favorite store in November and stock up early, as once the holidays hit the sales seem to disappear like a Tickle Me Elmo (is that still a thing?) Patrick Zimmerer is the Owner/CEO and Wyo Wine-O at Large of Table Mountain Vineyards & Winery. The Prying Relative – We all have one: that one person who is ready to analyze you better than the best psychiatrists for free and without being WLM | taste by Patrick Zimmerer, Table Mountain Vineyards & Winery Cowboy Cran Mulled Wine Recipe 5 T. Aspen Mulling Spice 1 Bottle TMV Cowboy Reserve 3 Cups Cranberry Juice 1-4 Cinnamon Sticks Sugar to taste Mix wine, spice & juice in crockpot and warm on low. Stir mixture and gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (avoid boiling), for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to dissolve ingredients. When the wine is steaming and the ingredients have been well blended it is ready to serve. Add sugar or honey to taste if needed. Ladle into mugs, garnish with cinnamon sticks and enjoy! Serves 8-10 asked to. Hand over a bottle of something semi-sweet like a Riesling or our Frontenac Gris and take on this relative with a fruity sweet wine, with some tartness and sour. A spot-on pairing! The Bestie – Choose an easy drinking fruity red wine and bring plenty! These wines offer a taste of the season with some spice notes and deep fruit flavors that taste like the holidays. “I love you Mans” are an optional addition to this category. The Beer Drinker – Take a Pass on this one and grab some six packs! The Loved Ones – Have fun and bring the world of wine to your table. Sweet, dry, red or white wines all have a place with those you love. Wine brings conversation, memories and enjoyment to every occasion and the holidays are even more special. Months later you may find a wine you had and reflect on all the fun of the holidays. Lastly, enjoy the season and raise a glass to the holidays! Until Next Time, Cheers! www.wyolifestyle.com 9
