Wishing Wire October

WISHING WIRE Volunteer Newsletter | October 2013 Wish puts Nicole on top of the World! At just 10-years-old, Nicole was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a form of liver cancer, and the prognosis was not good. However, Nicole stayed strong and positive and thoughts of her cherished wish – to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge – coming true when she was well enough helped her beat the odds. Almost two years had passed since her diagnosis when Nicole, now 12-years-old, was finally given the stamp of approval from her doctor to climb the bridge! With her family by her side Nicole experienced her first plane ride, a trip to the famous Taronga Zoo, visited the Sydney Aquarium, and of course climbed the world famous bridge, all as part of her thrilling wish experience. Volunteer Newsletter | October 2013 Nicole was beyond excited to take on the bridge climb and her mum, Carmel couldn’t be more proud of her daughter, especially after all she has been through. Carmel credits the wish as playing a significant role in Nicole’s recovery. “This has been such an amazing adventure. Nicole has been extremely brave and strong throughout her treatment and she never gave up. She took each problem in her stride and her wish was a major factor that kept our hopes and dreams alive,” Carmel said. There is no doubt that the many happy memories Nicole made on her wish, and the achievement of completing the bridge climb after all she has been through, will provide the hope, strength and joy Nicole needs to stay positive and to conquer the challenges ahead. ?
