Wishing Wire November

WISHING WIRE Volunteer Newsletter | November 2013 Batkid takes the world by storm! The world watched on recently as Batkid, Miles, saved Gotham City alongside his hero Batman. Five-year-old Miles’ humble wish ‘to be Batkid’ captured the hearts and minds of San Francisco locals keen to help Make-A-Wish® grant his wish. Then, as planning progressed and word of the wish spread it captivated people right across America, and all over the world! Miles, who has leukaemia, thought he was simply visiting San Francisco to collect a Batkid costume, so you can just imagine his delight when after being fitted he was called upon by the Police Chief himself, to save Gotham City. As part of the adventure he saved a damsel in distress, foiled a bank robbery and saved Gotham City from evil Riddler and Penguin. For his efforts he was then presented with the keys to the city from the Mayor in front of a cheering crowd, thousands strong. Though the scale of Miles’ wish is unprecedented, it is not far removed from the cherished wishes we are granting across Australia, and is yet another wonderful example of the power of a Make-A-Wish Volunteer Newsletter | November 2013 wish! This is why it remains so important we think creatively and make every attempt to grant a child’s true cherished wish. Not only do Make-A-Wish wishes provide unique and life-changing opportunities for seriously-ill children, they also have the power to engage the community, bring people together, to restore hope and strength and spread immense joy. As a Make-A-Wish volunteer you are making marvellous wishes, just like Miles’ come true every day – more than 400 wishes have been granted across the country to date this year! Thank you for your unwavering support. ? Page 1
