High School Girls Track
Deer eld Mini-Invite at Deer eld: 6th Place
Despite a strong effort, WSD placed sixth out of six
teams at the Deer eld Mini-Invite. Junior Kori Koss
paced the Lady Firebirds with top three nishes in the
100m, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and long jump.
Throwing shot put, senior Marika Beyer placed third.

GPSD at Iowa: 3rd Place
Competing against seven other schools for the Deaf,
the Lady Firebirds showed their true abilities at the
GPSD track and eld meet at Iowa School for the
Deaf. The girls collected 18 medals at this meet.
Sophomore Lyssa Matsche dashed to a second place
in both the 400m and 800m. The girls’ relay team
powered their way to a third place in 4x200m with
seniors Marika Beyer and Alexis Christ, junior Anna
Dorst, and Matsche. Undaunted, Kori Koss hurdled
her way to rst place in 100m hurdles and 400m
hurdles, breaking WSD’s record in 400m hurdles.
Beyer took second place in high jump. Finally, Christ
hurled the discus for a second place nish.

Badger JV Invitational: 5th Place
Hurdling past the other hurdlers, Kori Koss won the
rst place in all hurdles events: 100m, 300m, and
400m. Koss and the Lady Firebirds achieved fth
place out of 12 teams in the invitational. Not to be
outdone, Marika Beyer threw to a second place nish
in the shot put while Alexis Christ spun to third place
in discus. Koss added a second place nish in the long
jump.

Winning third place at the Indian Trials Conference
Tournament, the Lady Firebirds proved to be a erce
competitor among eight teams. Marika Beyer won
rst place in shot put while Alexis Christ won discus.
Soaring for the long jump event, junior Kori Koss
and sophomore Lyssa Matsche placed rst and third,
respectively. Matsche competed in the triple jump
and placed third. Koss hurdled to a second place in
the 100m and 300 m hurdles and placed second in the
400m dash. Firebirds ran ercely in the 4x200 m relay
to nish second.
