Adaptive Education Department News by Heather Martens Flubber! Prior to Heather Marten’s class mobility trip, students chose to make “ ubber” as the next sensory toys project. Students went to Wal-Mart and Staples to purchase a gallon of glue and a box of borax. The next day, Julian Ortiz, Roberto Gonzalez, and Andrew Vasilyev teamed up to make the rst batch of “ ubber”. During production, Roberto and Julian were grossed out by the texture and retreated to their own desks. Andrew was so fascinated by it that he jumped in to assist in the completion of the process. Several bags were made for the classroom for anyone to use as a calming tool. A sample was brought to counselor Peter Schultz and he requested several different colors for the PBIS store! Staff members Bethany Walsh and Heather Marten, along with Andrew, went right to work and made two Ziploc bags each of eight different colors! Feeding Birds Encouraged! During a class trip to the grocery store, Julian Ortiz, Roberto Gonzalez, and Andrew Vasilyev purchased grapefruit, bagels, peanut butter, and a bag of bird seed. They took their treasures outside and had fun making a mess. Bird feeders were made from grapefruit skins lled with bird seed and dried bagels covered in peanut butter and bird seed. In honor of Earth Day, the boys’ bird feeders were hung outside the Administration Building near the parking lot. Fun was had by all! Summer 2013 - 10
