Halina, Jerome Students in Rebecca Epple’s Freshmen/Sophomore and Dakota compete in the Deaf Studies class published a book on the history book race! of WSD titled: WSD: A Book of Firsts. The book BELOW: is available for purchase online at www.blurb.com. Teacher, Chris Being that this book could very well be the first book Woodfill actively shows published by students about the early years of WSD’s the upper history, the title’s pun is intended. It features many elementary students some major first events in the school’s history such as first uinque facts teachers, first campus locations, first curriculum and and trivia about WSD! so forth. All proceeds of its sale will go to support the WSD Museum as a gift from the class. To familiarize middle school and high school students with the book, a racing game of questions and answers was feverously played by all. For the lower elementary students, a coloring contest was held while the upper elementary students competed in a drawing contest. Both groups focused on one of the three earliest campus locations. Art teacher, Susan Dupor, helped her students creatively paint their way through WSD’s history. Two large wooden waving hands were colorfully decorated by the students to display illustrations of their cherished WSD memories. The high school ASL Club along with Kathryn Harbison and Joel Mankowski’s classes provided skits on various topics. A presentation was given on the 1991 campus protest which led to the appointment of WSD’s first Deaf Superintendent. Kathryn Harbison and Karla Gunn organized and led a fascinating alumni panel consisting of graduates from the 1920’s to the 1990’s! Guy Kelly shared memories of his own representing the 1940’s and those of his mother, representing the 1920’s. The day concluded with birthday cake and ice cream for all!
