WALLASEY VILLAGE
IN BLOOM FLORAL TRAIL
BBC 1 Strictly Come Dancing star, Shirley Ballas, is
to open the Wallasey Village in Bloom Floral Trail on
Sunday 5th May, 11.30am at Wallasey Village Library.
Wallasey Village in Bloom was formed in 2013 by local residents to
improve the environment, attract business and restore pride in the
community.

The Wirral Bikeathon, in aid of Bloodwise, is back for
their 21st year and registration is now open for the event
taking place on Sunday 16th June at Arrow Country Park.
Ernie Macaulay, Chair of Bloodwise, Wirral and Merseyside Branch
said: "This is a fun-filled family event, a ride not a race, with all kinds of
cycles taking part; we have seen reclining bikes, hand bikes, unicycles,
a wheelchair and range of tandems and trailer bikes.
"Our great local cycling legend, Chris Boardman, has been our patron
and a huge supporter of the event over these many years together with
members of his family. The ride is a figure of eight loop around the
Wirral with start, midpoint and finish in Arrowe Country Park.
On behalf of the team, Val Hemingway of Wallasey Village in Bloom
said: "Making our village smile with flowers is our aim. We couldn't
achieve this without our dedicated team of volunteers and the
support of local businesses and residents.
"We have been successful in attaining two RHS awards - the 2017
Silver Gilt and in 2018, the Gold for the Best Large Village in the
northwest of England.
"We are a self funding group and apply for grants, hold and participate
in fundraising events in order to purchase flowers and planters and
maintain many areas in Wallasey Village.
"The Floral Trail has been designed to take you on walks around the
village and includes all our floral displays, historical places of interest
and is tailored to suit all age groups to promote health and wellbeing.
Everyone is welcome to come along to the opening and take part in
the trail."

"It takes in north Wirral through Caldy and the Wirral Way to
West Kirby and Moreton. The second section goes from the park to
Thornton Hough, Storeton and Landican.
"There is musical entertainment in the park with hot and cold
refreshments and light refreshments at two checkpoints on the route
which is 28 miles in all but for those wanting a shorter ride a section of
only 14 miles is possible. Each participant gets a T-shirt and a medal is
presented at the end of the ride.
"More than ever this year we are relying on your support to help us
reach our target of £1 million for the charity Bloodwise. Since we
started the event in 1999, you have helped us raise the magnificent
sum of £970,000."

The entrance fee for adults is £15.00 (£25.00 on the day) and for those
aged 15 & under it is £5.00 (£5.00 on the day).
All those taking part on the day are entered in a draw to win a
Boardman Bike generously donated by Chris.
