AM I GOOD ENOUGH FOR A
CUSTOM FITTING?
BY TOM ATKINSON, PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL
We’ve all heard about custom fitting but we don’t all know the
benefits, I’ve listened to countless players saying that they are not
good enough to have a custom fit set of clubs, of course they are!
So what does it actually mean for the average club golfer?
Lie Angle: This measurement helps to get the club moving through
the turf in the most consistent way possible, the correct lie will also
help to correct any miss that the player may tend to have.
Shaft Length: Getting the correct length puts the player in the most
athletic posture to make the most repeatable swing they can, which is
essential for consistency.
Shaft Flex: The more advanced players will hit the ball consistently
further, the average golfer must have the proper shaft weight and flex
to maximise consistency and distance.
If you are thinking of new clubs this spring, take the time to go
through a club fitting with us. With the investment that must be made
in golf clubs today, it is foolish not to be fit. Give yourself the greatest
opportunity for success, Iain Roberson is our expert on site, contact
him to book your session.
Head Model: There are so many clubs to choose from now, selecting
a head design for the player is key, it needs to be one that is the most
forgiving and works with their individual tendencies and preferences.
Grip: This is one of the most forgotten fundamentals of fitting…
Does the player have a grip type that works with the weather they
play in most often, and also, do they have the proper grip size based
on their glove size and feel preference ? This is after all the only point
of contact on the club.
The effect of clubs that don’t fit you can be seen here, and this is just
one of the measurements that needs to be correct.
