IN BRIEF AN AUDIENCE WITH STAN BOARDMAN AT THE EPSTEIN THEATRE DAME PATRICIA ROUTLEDGE TO OPEN WIRRAL HOSPICE ST JOHN’S GARDEN On Saturday 25 May, Liverpool will be treated to the presence of one of their most celebrated entertainers, whose success and quick-wit was part of a great generation of comic talent for the country. Wirral Hospice St John’s is delighted to announce that Dame Patricia Routledge will perform the official opening of its newly made-over gardens, on Saturday 29th June at 11.30am. Dame Patricia will also enjoy a tour of the garden, the hospice itself and place a time capsule as a record of her visit. From Scottie Road and being bombed out by the Germans during the War, when his brother was actually killed, this unscripted show will be unique and entertaining and Stan will document his struggles and successes. Along with the laughs, the show will give a fascinating insight into Stan’s life and growing up in Liverpool. Each year some 3,500 individuals, organisations, stately homes and castles open their gardens to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS). 'An Audience with Stan Boardman' will take place at the Epstein Theatre. Tickets are £20. You can buy tickets at www.ticketline.co.uk. Entry fees from all of these events are pooled to benefit a host of charities, including MacMillan Cancer Care, Marie Curie and Hospice UK. GOLF LEGEND JOHN DALY COMES TO WIRRAL People often choose to further help their more local charities by selling refreshments and cakes, holding raffles and taking more kind donations. This year, in addition to our other supporters who open their gardens for us, the hospice garden will also be open for visitors over the weekend of 29/30th June from 11.30am to 4.30pm. American Professional Golfer John Daly is coming to Thornton Manor, Wirral on Sunday 30th June for 'An exclusive audience with John Daly'. See the legendary 'Wild Thing' in action using the golf simulator and listen to him first hand re-tell the tales of drinking and his partying ways. How he won and lost millions, his multiple marriages and his unique way of taking to the course. Tickets start from £35 (Early Bird). Also, VIP tickets are available where you can have a private meet and greet, a photo and a shot against the man himself. The afternoon includes a compère and a comedian. Tickets are available from www.ticketquarter.co.uk (search John Daly) or call 0344 8000 410. Thanks to the generosity of volunteers and organisations, the hospice gardens are being given a makeover to give patients in our Wellbeing Centre and those on our Inpatients Ward, and their families, a pleasant environment to spend time together whenever the weather allows. Over the open weekend the garden itself will be a massive attraction featuring a bright display of bedding plants, perennials, colourful shrubs, roses and vegetables. Unusual features will include planted chairs, chests of drawers and yarn bombing. There will be a Pimms tent, and light refreshments with, of course, plenty of cakes. Guests will be able to purchase from a range of donated plants, planters and lots of other garden paraphernalia. Local group, the Timeline Band, are playing and there is plenty to keep the kids occupied with small animals and beekeeping demonstrations. wirrallife.com 13
