Man Does Something Amazing
For Five Soldiers On His Flight
By Brendan Kelly
A man's story about what he did for a group of
soldiers on his flight has gone viral. So we printed it.
After a man sat down on his flight, a group of about
10 soldiers walked on and filled up the seats around
him. He struck up a conversation with a few soldiers.
"Where are you headed?" he asked.
One soldier replied, "Petawawa. We'll be there for
two weeks for special training, and then we're being
deployed to Afghanistan."
Later on in the flight, a flight attendant made an an-
nouncement saying that sack lunches were available
for $5 each. The man overheard two soldiers discuss-
ing whether or not they were going to buy lunch.
"No, that seems like a lot for just a sack lunch," one
soldier said. "Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks.
I'll wait till we get to base."
The man looked around and noticed that none of the
soldiers were ordering lunch. He got up out of his seat,
walked to the back of the plane, and handed a flight
attendant $50, saying "Take a lunch to all those sol-
diers."
The flight attendant was blown away and gave the man
a big hug. She said, "My son was a soldier in Iraq. It's
almost like you are doing it for him."
The flight attendant walked up with the lunches to pass
them out to the soldiers, but first stopped at the man's
seat and asked if he preferred chicken or beef. He
said chicken, but didn't know why she asked.
After delivering the soldiers their lunches, the atten-
dant returned with a meal from first class for the gen-
erous man, telling him, "This is your thanks."
When the man finished eating, he walked to the rest
room and a man stopped him in the aisle.
"I saw what you did," he said. "I want to be a part of
it." He handed him $25.
