Sherlock Holmes lowered him down a rope . “ Can you climb up ?” shouted Holmes . “ I ’ ll be out before you know it !” came Watson ’ s reply . But the climb wasn ’ t as easy as Watson had first imagined . Each hour he managed to climb 3ft - but slipped back 2ft . How long did it take Watson to get out ?

Sherlock Holmes sat with the other members of the Criminologist ’ s Club and listened to the
Treasurer ’ s report . “ In conclusion ,” said the Treasurer , “ the repairs to the Club will come to a total of `2040 . I propose that this amount should be met by the members , each paying an equal amount .” This proposal was immediately put to the vote and was agreed unanimously . However , four members of the Club chose to resign , leaving the remaining members to pay an extra `17 each . How many members did the Club originally have ?

Inside each of the safety deposit boxes listed below you will find a clue to the crime you are presently investigating . BOX NUMBERS : 20 , 80 , 76 , 19 , 23 , 92 , 88 and ____? I have omitted to tell you the number of the last box , but I ’ m sure a great detective such as yourself will know where to look . Holmes read the note then passed it to Dr Watson . “ Most inconvenient ,” muttered Watson . “ Now we ’ ll have to open every single safety deposit box to find the clue .” “ Not so , Watson ,” replied Holmes . “ I know exactly which box to open . Come along ; let ’ s hurry to the Dunwick Bank .” What was the number of the last safety deposit box ?
