W ith a broad depth of experience in the industry and a passion for supporting its future workforce, Simon Humble is the newest trainer to join Glass Skills Australia’s team. Simon will provide on-the-job training programs to apprentices across Australia, allowing them to gain their qualification without leaving their workplace. Simon provides insight on his career so far and what he aims to achieve in his new position: Tell us about your background? I have been working in the glass and glazing I worked with Pilkington/Viridian for 19 years, starting as a process worker before working up to the position of processing supervisor. I held the position of operations officer before I commenced this exciting new opportunity with Glass Skills Australia. What skills from previous roles are you bringing to Glass Skills Australia? First and foremost, I am bringing a passion for my industry to the position. This is complemented with my in depth knowledge of the cutting, processing and handling of glass. What do you enjoy most about working in the glass and glazing industry? All the different applications you can use glass for. Not only is it a functional part of housing and buildings, there are many different things you can make with it - from the standard type mirror to the decorative applications you can manufacture. Always be willing to have a go at something different. Listen and learn from the older tradesmen, they are a wealth of knowledge you can always learn from. Why is ongoing learning so valuable? Ongoing learning is important especially for this industry because there is always a new type of application being rolled out. Learning keeps you on top of ever changing processes. What are you looking forward to most about working on the Glass Skills Australia team? After seeing Glass Skills Australia in action, I wanted to be a part of a progressive program which is a market leader in training and upskilling. I am looking forward to improving my knowledge whilst giving back to the glass and glazing industry. We welcome Aneeta as part of JELD-WEN and are pleased to add their products to JELD-WEN’s portfolio of offerings.” J The acquisition of Aneeta continues an aggressive growth period for JELD-WEN and follows the company’s recent announcement in early August that it has also acquired Dooria, one of the largest door manufacturers in the Swedish and Norwegian markets. ELD-WEN, the world’s largest manufacturer of windows and doors, has announced the acquisition of Aneeta Window Systems (Aneeta), an industry leading manufacturer and supplier of sashless windows in Australia. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Since 1994, Aneeta Windows has specialised in the manufacturing of sashless windows, an innovative system that features two moving panes of counterbalanced glass, without the bulk of a timber or aluminum sash frame surrounding the glass. Based in Melbourne, Aneeta currently operates in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. The company has licensing agreements in the United States, New Zealand and the Philippines. Aneeta also exports products to Singapore and Mexico, and is exploring other opportunities for international growth.
