Glass Skills Australia’s team.
Simon will provide on-the-job training
programs to apprentices across Australia,

Simon provides insight on his career so
far and what he aims to achieve in his new
position:
Tell us about your background?
I have been working in the glass and glazing
I worked with Pilkington/Viridian for 19 years,
starting as a process worker before working
up to the position of processing supervisor. I
held the position of operations officer before
I commenced this exciting new opportunity
with Glass Skills Australia.
What skills from previous roles are you
bringing to Glass Skills Australia?
First and foremost, I am bringing a passion
for my industry to the position. This is
complemented with my in depth knowledge
of the cutting, processing and handling of
glass.
What do you enjoy most about working in
the glass and glazing industry?
All the different applications you can use
glass for. Not only is it a functional part
of housing and buildings, there are many
different things you can make with it - from
the standard type mirror to the decorative
applications you can manufacture.
Always be willing to have a go at something
different. Listen and learn from the older
tradesmen, they are a wealth of knowledge
you can always learn from.
Why is ongoing learning so valuable?
Ongoing learning is important especially
for this industry because there is always a
new type of application being rolled out.
Learning keeps you on top of ever changing
processes.
What are you looking forward to most about
working on the Glass Skills Australia team?
After seeing Glass Skills Australia in action,
I wanted to be a part of a progressive
program which is a market leader in training
and upskilling.
I am looking forward to improving my
knowledge whilst giving back to the glass and
glazing industry.
