Winchester Radio wins FM licence
‘ RADIO for Winchester , From Winchester , By Winchester ’ has taken a step closer with the awarding of a community radio licence to local volunteer-led charity Winchester Radio .
The charity applied to Ofcom for an FM community radio licence to serve the city of Winchester and the surrounding villages when the opportunity arose for community radio bids in 2015 .
The charity is aiming to provide a broadcasting service , particularly for a 50 + age group audience . Winchester Radio hopes to keep its target audience engaged with their local community , promote healthier lifestyles and help reduce social isolation .
The service will be broadcast from the RHCH , where Winchester Radio is currently based . An FM community radio licence means people will be able to tune in , not only in the city centre , but also in surrounding villages within a five kilometre radius .
Parking strategy review
A MID-TERM review of Winchester ’ s car parking strategy has been launched , covering the period 2014-2018 .
The strategy sets out Winchester City Council ’ s approach to managing car parking provision in Winchester itself and in the market towns of New Alresford , Bishop ’ s Waltham , Wickham , Whiteley and Denmead .
It focuses mainly on off-street public car parking ; its main aim is to provide a sufficient number of suitably located and managed car parking spaces to sustain the long-term economic , social and environmental well-being of the city and district .
There have been a number of changes since the adoption of the strategy , including the closure of Chesil surface and Friarsgate car parks , whilst parking charges have remained unchanged . A comprehensive review of the park and ride operation has seen the introduction of a new fleet of ‘ cleaner ’ buses running more often at a daily fee unchanged since 2010 .
An online survey is available on the city council ’ s website until August 30 .
