Sleep. I know this is obvious but nothing heals the body like sleep does. It can be challenging to even get a couple of hours in as a mother sometimes. So, sleep whenever and wherever you can!! Sleep when your baby sleeps (the housework can wait), call in friends to watch baby while you have a sleep: just do whatever you can to have naps and sleep. Your body will thank you for it. Chamomile and skullcap are 2 of my favourite herbs that can assist sleep.



Arnica. This incredible herb is a powerful healer of connective tissue and is fantastic after birth taken internally and topically as well.


Broths. One of the best and quickest ways to restore vital nutrients in the body (see recipe)


Be gentle on yourself. You have just gone through an enormous amount of physical endurance and you need sufficient rest for the muscles and ligaments that hold your uterus in place to regain their strength. There is no rush to get back to the gym or back to your usual activists. Honor the 4th trimester and rest as much as you can. This goes for all stages of motherhood – be gentle!
