ummer was a success!

What a summer it has been: From camps to fairs and everything in-between! August proved to be the busiest month yet. The Crawford County Fair went off without a hitch. It was a busy week filled with all kinds of events food, rocketry, crafts, livestock, and fun! The fair is a busy time that would not be possible without the time and hard work from all of the great volunteers that make it possible. And a special thank you to my fellow agents who were there to lend a helping hand throughout the week!

This year I experienced my home town county fair a little different. As a youth, the fair was about preparing projects to the best of your ability to showcase during the week. Youth see all of the wonderful staff and volunteers that helping to make it all possible without realizing the true purpose behind the work they are doing. As the 4-H agent, the goal of the fair is youth development. This youth development comes from a variety of resources. Youth learn citizenship by helping to prepare the facilities. They development communication skills through consultative judging. They learn teamwork by working with other youth to help each other succeed. This youth development is what makes all of the hard work worth it.

Time doesn’t stop after the fair. Upon the completion of the fair it is then time to prepare for the Kansas State Fair. I am very excited for all of the wonderful youth who will be submitting exhibits and taking their animals to represent the Wildcat District this year. In an effort to spread the word on all of the amazing things that are happening with 4-H in the Wildcat District I have been spreading the work at the back to school bash.
