have had a bit more “breathing room” since the number of contacts with clientele regarding their questions and concerns have started to slow, which is normal for September. However, another important activity has garnered my time; assisting Christina Beason coaching Kansas’ number one horticulture judging team! The team consisting of Ashley Chandler, Kelsey Schoplowsky, Taya Maxson, and Cloey Jones will be heading to St. Louis October 5 through October 9, for the National Junior Horticulture Association’s (NJHA) judging contest. I’ve prepared a PowerPoint presentation for the team and Christina. This presentation contains all the plants that are on the NJHA plant list. In addition, I’ve printed copies (with the help of Sherry Foister) of all the NJHA study manuals; test questions for the contest are taken from these manuals. We’re looking forward to representing the state of Kansas at the contest!
Another activity outside the normal phone calls, office visits, and on-site visits was the Zoom meeting (Zoom is a way of meeting by computer without actually being there – saves on gas and travel time) with Gayle Price and other members of the Farmers’ Market Vendor Workshop planning committee on September 18. I think our committee has worked out a very interesting plan for the event. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, at the Southeast Area Extension Center in Parsons.
My other scheduled activities: Wednesday morning (7:40 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) radio shows on KGGF 690 AM in Coffeyville on September 12, 19, and 26; a news article – September Lawn Management Operations; and pre-recorded radio spots – Weekly Ag News and Extension Minutes Reports (September Lawn Fertilization, Planting Flowering Bulbs, Power Raking and Core Aeration of Fescue Lawns, Dividing peonies).
