he leaves are starting to change colors, but the weather has been beautiful this September. Crawford County 4-H members are using the weather to their advantage and staying busy. September is an election month for 4-H. Clubs must elect new officers for the year, organize personnel on committees, and start planning for a new year! The new 4-H year and enrollment starts October 1, 2017.

A total of 43 inside exhibits were taken to the Kansas State Fair for Crawford County. Miranda Hartman’s photography exhibit was chosen to be on exhibit at Rock Springs 4-H Center! I gathered the inside exhibits for Crawford, Labette, and Montgomery and took them up to the fair. After putting the exhibits on display, I was able to help with sheep check-in for the 4-H show.

I have also spent some time cleaning out the back room at the Crawford County Office. I am trying to make room for items donated to 4-H Council by the Tractor Supply Store in Pittsburg, KS. When the newly opened Pittsburg store learned of the fee to be charged to 4-H members they donated supplies for a fundraiser. Tractor Supply has been a great asset to our 4-H support system. They have allowed 4-H promotional and club fundraiser tables to be get up for their grand opening and other events. The store also donated shavings and other supplies during the Crawford County Fair for 4-H youth. October 4-15, 2017 Tractor Supply will be offering patrons the opportunity to purchase a paper clover at checkout. Crawford County 4-H clubs will then be able to apply for scholarships from the store! We appreciate the support of Tractor Supply in Pittsburg and look forward to more collaboration with them!

In an effort to continue our districting efforts, Wildcat 4-H agents met this month to continue discussing the best way to handle 4-H programming across county lines. Agents discussed record books, officer training, judging teams, club succession planning, etc. All counties are now doing their record books the same way (with the exception of the newly joined Wilson County). Counties are also collaborating for the judging of record books. We are also working to hold district wide events, such as officer training coming up in November.
