he National Extension Associate of Family and Consumer Science Annual meeting took place in San Antonio and was a big highlight for me this month. It is a privilege to be able to attend these meetings. I received two awards first place Central Region for the Communications Radio/Podcast Program Award and second place Central Region for Communications Television/Video Program Award. National meetings are an excellent place to network and learn new things. A few highpoints this year:

• Tips for making reports, grants, and award submissions stronger.

• Having an online presence – we are moving to a digital world and to continue to be relevant Extension needs to be a part of it.

• Webinars – they are a way to get information to people where they are. The program I attended said they went from having white women primarily attend their meetings face to face to webinars and having a mix of races and both male and female participants.

Building a Culture of Health in Labette County is going strong. We developed a healthy coalition name: SHIFT Labette County (Shaping Health Improving Fitness Together) along with a vision and mission. Our team has worked hard on the Culture of Health Grant as well that was due November 1. We have many plans in the works to draw attention and gain traction on healthy living. Some of those include: reaching out to service organizations, creating an online presence, marketing materials, logo ideas and reaching out to our younger generations. See our vision and mission below.

Vision: Live Healthy Be Well

Mission: SHIFT Labette County is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles for the future well-being of our community. Bridging the gap between people and organizations who offer mental and physical health, wellness, job training, and transportation.

I am also playing a very active role in Extension state wide.

This month marks 10 years in Extension for me. I am very excited with the work we are doing currently and collaborations we are making within our district, state level and nationally as well.
